Briefly: Dust is causing snowpack to melt too soon. That’s a problem for the Colorado River water supply

According to KJZZ Phoenix, snowmelt and the runoff from it are critical to water supplies across the state of Colorado. However, new research from the University of Utah looked at two decades-worth of satellite data and found that another major part of our Colorado ecosystem, dust, can have a negative impact on our snowmelt resources. Dust has the ability to decrease reflectivity and cause snow to melt too soon which has implications for drier summers ahead.
