Briefly: Boulder County solar garden boosts electricity, saves water

GPB News reports that Boulder farmer Bryan Kominek has successfully integrated solar panels on his property with help from researchers at Colorado State University and the National Renewable Energy Lab. The community solar garden, Jack’s Solar Garden, sells 1.2 megawatts of power back into the local grid. The inverters on the property generate enough power for 300 homes to use in a year. Shade from the panels has helped limit evaporation of irrigation water from the crops grown in their shade, and the evaporation has in turn helped keep the solar panels cooler, helping to maintain efficiency in power production.
