According to Colorado Public Radio, air support is a crucial piece of the puzzle when it comes to fighting wildfires. By dumping thousands of gallons of water on a fire from above, firefighters are able to delay a fire before the boots on the ground can arrive. However, it takes special training and collaboration between agencies to make air support a reality. The recent 2025 Colorado Fire and Aviation Summit featured the Colorado National Guard, USDA Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management, and other local agencies to do just that.
