California’s KQED radio reports that new research indicates 15% of the state’s underground water storage capacity has likely been lost. The loss comes as aquifers have been drained by overpumping, leaving their walls vulnerable to collapse. New technology, however, could detect damage sooner, allowing the aquifers to be better protected, scientists said.
