Briefly: Colorado River’s Shoshone Power Plant seeing more outages

Aspen Journalism reports that the hydropower plant, whose historic water rights are being sold to West Slope water interests, was not operating for most of 2023 and much of 2024. When the plant isn’t operating, it affects flows in the river and allows upstream users to divert more. The Colorado River Water Conservation District and other utilities hope to secure the final financing to purchase the plant’s water rights, and dedicate the water to the river, where it can help boost fisheries, recreation economies, and West Slope irrigation systems.
