NPR reports that, due to climate change, the lower 48 states just experienced the warmest winter in 130 years of record-keeping, with temperatures more than 5 degrees hotter than average. High temperatures can result in less snowpack and earlier runoff. This warm winter follows record-breaking 2023, which goes down as the hottest year recorded.
