Briefly: Rural areas lose out on big federal dollars for drought, wildfire programs

The Mountain News Service reports that coastal states and wealthier communities are more likely to win federal grant dollars to prepare for wildfires and develop drought resilience programs, according to a new study, which also shows that the intermountain West has been entirely left out of the winner’s circle on these grants, or has received only a fraction of what other regions have won.
