AXIOS reports that the Bureau of Reclamation has declared a water shortage at Lake Mead due to low flows on the Colorado River. The declaration triggers a series of water allocation cuts to states downstream of the reservoir. Lake Mead has dropped below 1,075 feet above sea level, or 40 percent of capacity. The first round of cuts will impact Arizona farmers most significantly, as the state loses 18 percent of its share of the river. Nevada is set to lose about 7 percent of its allocation and Mexico 5 percent.
