Inside Climate News reports that Central Valley farmers in California are being hit especially hard amidst the driest year the state has seen in four decades. Federal officials set initial water allocations from the Central Valley Project in February, allotting farmers with 5 percent of their contracted water supplies. Now, allocations for farmers both north and south of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta have been reduced to zero. Concerns about recent water cuts from the Bureau of Reclamation have farmers recalling agricultural losses from the drought experienced in 2012-2016, which were in excess of $3.8 billion.
