According to the Billings Gazette, the town of Colstrip, Montana, is concerned that it will no longer have water after the coal-fired Colstrip Power Plant is officially closed. The town has asked Montana lawmakers to require the supply continue to flow as part of an environmental cleanup. The power plant receives water from the Yellowstone River, where it flows into Castle Rock Reservoir and is then utilized by both the power plant and town of Colstrip. The city currently lacks the funding and resources to operate the water system on its own. However, power plant owners are objecting to paying for water delivery to the community indefinitely.
