Briefly: Utah wants its own Colorado River agency

According to Deseret News, in an effort to safeguard their interests in the Colorado River, Utah has proposed creation of the Colorado River Authority of Utah. A bill to set up the authority recently passed in the House and will be taken up by a Senate committee for further consideration. The authority would be made up of representatives from major water districts in Utah, in addition to the Colorado River commissioner representing Utah. According to House Speaker Brad Wilson, Utah only uses 54 percent of its allocation from the river and the unused water needs to be protected.
