According to reporting from The Gazette, construction on a water treatment plant for Security residents is expected to be operational by the end of the year, says the Security Water and Sanitation District. The facility could supply the city with as much as 9 million gallons of water a day from the Widefield aquifer. The aquifer is tainted with perfluorinated chemicals from firefighting foam used at Peterson Air Force Base. The facility will utilize a treatment system that was pioneered by Widefield Water and Sanitation District that relies on polymer beads to create a molecular reaction to treat the water before distribution.
