According to the Associated Press and CBS Denver this week, water officials from Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and Wyoming are urging the U.S. government to halt the approval process for building a 140-mile underground pipeline that would transport billions of gallons of water through the desert to Southwest Utah. The Lake Powell Pipeline project would deliver up to 86,000 acre-feet of water annually from Lake Powell in northern Arizona to Washington County, Utah. The letter from state water leaders expressed concerns around jeopardizing the future of the over-tapped Colorado River.
