According to the Grand Junction Sentinel, the towns of New Castle, Parachute, and De Beque have all agreed to contribute more than $100,000 to the Western Slope’s efforts to buy the historic Shoshone hydroelectric power plant water rights. These efforts, led by the Colorado River District to buy water right owned by Xcel Energy is an attempt to safeguard water flows on the Colorado River in western Colorado
