Briefly: Kremmling-area dam risk of failure rising

According to the Steamboat Pilot, the Colorado River Water Conservation District’s board has agreed to pay $323,840 in order to study the structural integrity of the Ritschard Dam. River District staff have been aware of the movement and settling of the dam since 2008 and have been monitoring the situation. A comprehensive report completed in 2020 by HDR Engineering found a 1.5-in-10,000 chance of dam failure. This season’s plan is to fill the reservoir.
