The Associated Press reports that federal officials will not release cool water this year to protect threatened native fish below Glen Canyon Dam. Cool water releases from Lake Powell in 2024 and 2025 were successful in protecting federally protected fish south on the river and in preventing non-native smallmouth bass from spawning. According to the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, that cool water isn’t being released this year “due to significant hydropower generation concerns.”
