Briefly: New studies on ancient Colorado River drought say the current dry spell could get worse

The Colorado Sun reports that new research from University of Arizona and U.S. Bureau of Reclamation researchers shows that a 24-year mega drought on the Colorado River 1,800 years ago shrank its flows by one-third, almost twice the 16% decline the current 22-year drought has caused. That may mean modern-day water planners need to rethink how to accommodate increasingly severe dry spells.
