Aspen Journalism reports that inventories of irrigation ditches have become more common. However, there is no requirement that the information be made public. Agriculture groups say that ditch-inventory projects are necessary to upgrade infrastructure and environmental organizations say they are an important aspect to irrigation efficiency. But currently, neither the Colorado Water Conservation Board nor the Colorado Basin Roundtable have a policy that allows the public to have access to the inventories, even in instance where public money was used in the process.
