According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the Las Vegas Valley Water District board unanimously approved a new rule that any new golf courses that come to Las Vegas will not be able to utilize Colorado River water supplied by the district for irrigation. On average, golf courses are responsible for about 6% of Southern Nevada’s total water use. However, most of the water used for irrigation is lost or evaporated and does not return to Lake Mead, compared to municipal water used indoors which is treated and returned to Lake Mead.
